Dorothy Askew Morgan, 87, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday July 14, 2010. She was a native of Newport News an active member of Nansemond River Baptist Church and known as "Granny" by her family and friends. Mrs. Morgan was the widow of the late Harry L. Morgan, Sr. She was also predeceased by her parents, Mariah and Henry Clay Askew, Sr.; siblings, Ivy Marler of Destin, FL, Henry C. Askew, Jr. of Chesapeake, Sherman Askew and Joseph Askew both of Portsmouth, Lenora Marley of Bloxom, VA and Jane Kay Taylor of Parksley, VA. She is survived by her brother, James Askew of Gulfport, Miss.; son and daughter, Harry L. Morgan, Jr. and Sondra Rea Morgan; grandchildren, Emily Stewart and husband, Kelly, Jennifer Winslow and husband, "Trey", Carrie Cobbs and husband, Doug, "Andy" Wood and wife, Sara; great-grandchildren, Heather and Juliana Stewart, Marissa, Bailey and Mason Cobbs and Baby Winslow. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in Nansemond River Baptist Church by Dr. Tim Piland with entombment in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family suggests memorial contributions to Relay for Life and they will receive friends in the funeral home Friday from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
