James Franklin Buchanan, 66, passed away on February 16, 2010 at Sentara Norfolk General. Jim was born in Bluefield, West Virginia and lived most of his life in the Portsmouth, Virginia area. Jim served in the Air Force from 1962 until 1973. He was a Staff Sergeant and part of airstrip fire crews. Jim served a tour of duty in Vietnam.
Jim was predeceased by two brothers, Charles Dean, and Roger Wayne Buchanan. He was also predeceased by his father Charles C. Buchanan. Jim leaves behind three sons: Charles Wayne and Roger Dean Buchanan of Japan and a third son Charles Franklin Buchanan.
He also leaves behind his mother, Thelma Jones, his brothers, John and his wife Ginny, Robert and his wife Anita, Jeri and his wife Teresa, Teri and his wife Debbie, and a sister Mary Lou Condee and her partner Bill Vineyard. Jim also leaves behind numerous friends, nephews and nieces, and many family members in the Bluefield, West Virginia area.
Jim also leaves behind his dear friend Maureen "Mo" Montgomery with whom he especially enjoyed visiting the eagles at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, February 19 in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel. The family will receive friends in the funeral home, Thursday from 6:30-7:30 PM.
