Joseph D. Moore, Jr. passed away on July 9, 2010 in Hilton Head, SC. He was born on July 6, 1917 in Memphis, TN, son of the late Dema Hume Moore and Joseph D. Moore, Sr.

Joe was a WWII Navy veteran. He retired after 26 years from Shop 31, NNSY. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, the Walter Gardner Coffee Club, Portsmouth Music Study Club, lifetime member of the American Federation of Musicians Local #125, VFW Post 1966 in Ft. Lauderdale, and the reunion associations of the USS Bataan CVL29 and USS Shangri-La CV38.

Joe's passion was his music. He played viola with the Norfolk Symphony for 30 years. He also played with the Virginia Beach Pops, the Peninsula Orchestra, the ODU Symphony, the Feldman Chamber Orchestra, the Virginia Opera Association
orchestra, and one season with the Florida Symphony under Henry Mazer.

In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his wife, Margaret S. Moore, his first wife of 30 years, Marie S. Moore, and his son-in-law, William J.
Creech, Jr. Survivors include his daughter, Janice Austin Creech; grandson, William J. Creech, III and his wife Ashley; granddaughter, Sarah M. Creech;
step-son Robert B. Sprott and his wife Lynn; sisters-in-law Jean W. St. Clair and Mary B. Butler; special friends Judson and Frances Moore, Richard and Audrey
King, and several cousins in Memphis, TN.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20, at Calvary Baptist Church in Portsmouth, VA. Loving Funeral Home, Churchland is handling the arrangements.The family suggests memorials be made to Calvary Baptist Church
