Ruth Virginia Applewhite Calvert age 84 went to be with her Lord on Sunday July 4th, 2010. Ruth was born in Portsmouth the daughter of the late Walter Wray Applewhite and Elizabeth Lee Powell Applewhite. She is predeceased by her parents and her husband Robert Edward Calvert and her brothers: Wray, Roy, Woodis and Lee Applewhite. Mrs. Calvert is survived by her daughters: Virginia Lee Efird, and her husband, Wayne, Sandy D. Holmes and her husband, Bill. Grandchildren: Shelley Holmes and Tad Holmes, brothers Hilton F. Applewhite and his wife, Diane, Larry Applewhite, and a sister Bettie F. Capps and her husband Jim. Also surviving Mrs. Calvert are several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service to Celebrate Ruth's Life will be held on Friday July 9 at 11:00 am at Loving Funeral Home Churchland Chapel with Pastor Mark Pullen officiating. Interment will follow at Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 7:00-8:30 PM. Ruth's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and nurses at Golden Living Center for the care they gave Ruth. Memorial contributions may be made in Ruth's name to Golden Living Center 900 London Blvd. Portsmouth.
